The multiplicative form does not change with scale. A single decision is the product of four interacting forces. One at zero and the outcome collapses regardless of the others. Many decisions linked by feedback produce a cascade that follows the same three-phase structure every time. The same architecture that governs the individual decision governs the population-level cascade, and the conditions under which it transfers across domains are specified and testable. Three laws. Across many decisions linked by feedback, a canonical three-phase cascade emerges. Across domains, the same structure holds wherever three criteria are satisfied. The logic is the same in all three. The scale changes. The form does not.

The First Law operates at the level of an individual decision. Every decision is generated by four interacting forces. Environmental forces shape the decision from outside. Temporal triggers fire at specific moments. Motivational states come from inside the actor. Affective-cognitive filters select what gets through. The four forces do not add. They multiply.

The insight is zero-force nullification. If any one of the four forces collapses to zero, the outcome collapses to zero regardless of the strength of the other three. This is the property additive models cannot reproduce. In additive form a high environmental pressure can compensate for a missing motivational state. In multiplicative form it cannot. The Art Basel collector with the means, the moment, and the conviction but no remaining wall space does not buy the painting. The wall space is the zero-force factor. The First Law makes that factor visible.

Three phases, one canonical sequence. Collapse fast, recovery slow.

The Second Law operates at the level of a cascade across many decisions. Every cascade follows the same three-phase structure. The first phase is Ignition, when the cascade has not yet registered publicly. The second phase is Polarisation, when the system bifurcates into opposing extreme states and the middle ground collapses. The third phase is Institutionalisation, when the cascade locks into the new structure that follows from the bifurcation. The three phases are not labels. They are the canonical sequence the architecture predicts.

The most consequential prediction of the Second Law is asymmetric reversibility. Collapse can be fast because it requires only one zero-force nullification at the level of the underlying decisions. Recovery requires all four forces to be non-zero simultaneously across the same population. The ratio runs between three and six to one in confirmed cases. The COVID-19 cascade across one hundred and eighty-four countries shows the structure cleanly. Lockdowns adopted in weeks, recovery measured in years.

The Third Law operates at the level of structural identity across scales. The Identical Scale Principle states that a cross-scale claim is valid if and only if three criteria hold concurrently. Structural identity: the source domain and the target concept are governed by the same physical law. Scale independence: the law produces the same structure at every magnification of the system. Domain invariance: the law holds regardless of which discipline it was first identified in. The three criteria are not options. A claim must satisfy all three to be structurally sound.

The ISP functions as a pre-empirical filter. A claim that fails any one criterion is unsound regardless of how much data has been collected to support it. This is its purpose. The principle was formulated as a contribution to science education, where invalid analogies have misdirected research for decades. It is the meta-level frame that makes the First and Second Laws applicable across substrates. Without the ISP, the multiplicative architecture would be a financial-services observation. With the ISP, it is a law.

Patrick Mehrhoff is a German entrepreneur, independent researcher, AI engineer, and author. He is the author of the three original theories that constitute the Mehrhoff Research Program. He built the work the studio carries.

Most practitioners spend a career inside one domain. He worked as a practitioner at six of the frontiers that redefined how society organises information, money, and value over the last two decades. The consumer internet, Swiss fintech, European monetary policy, Southeast Asian financial publishing, institutional crypto assets, and the first wave of applied AI.

The same structural observation appeared at every frontier. By 2019, on a whiteboard at crypto infrastructure provider Wyden in Zurich, the pattern had become visible to itself. It did not yet have a name. Four years before any AI language model became publicly available, the complete logic of the Three Laws of Decision-Making was already on the whiteboard.

The studio was built from Bangkok, without institutional affiliation and without external funding. The Rubens workshop model defines how it operates. The founder sets the intellectual direction at every decisive step. The tools and collaborators execute within it.

Mehrhoff Research operates outside academia and outside industry. An independent science and research studio with no external funding, no board, and no university partnership. Founded 2019 in Zurich, domiciled in Tallinn, run from Bangkok.
